#MMBBR #Highlight #AtticusFray and the Prophecy of Lynx Karpovic by #RobertBridge

ABOUT THE BOOK: If you liked Harry Potter then you'll love: Atticus Fray. Atticus didn't know he descended from a secret sect of knights; and he certainly didn't know he was cursed to die in his 18th year. Atticus must discover the truth behind his parents' lies and journey to the fantasy land of Katara, to begin his training. A teenage boy's adventure begins.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Robert Bridge was born on the Isle of Wight in the UK (yes he only has one head). He was forced to move to Australia at the age of two. He spent thirty four years in the sunshine, enjoying the weather, sandy beaches, BBQ's and the relaxing Australian lifestyle. Then in 2004 Robert met a previously unknown godmother who invited him back to the UK. Robert traded the warmth of the southern hemisphere, and became one of probably only five Australian's to do so, he moved back to the UK. Robert has been writing stories since he could hold a pen. The backstory and planning of Atticus Fray took over a year to complete. This is his first novel and he will continue Atticus's journey with five more in the series. He has ideas for four more books and will address these when Atticus has completed his quest.

#MMBBR #Review Hungry Heart: Adventures in Life, Love, and Writing by @jenniferweiner ‏@AtriaBooks @simonschuster ‏

"Generous and entertaining." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Finalist for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay * Nominated for “Best Memoir & Autobiography” by Goodreads Choice Awards 2016 * Named a “Best Book of the Year” by New York Post

"You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to read it again." —TheSkimm

“I'm mad Jennifer's Weiner's first book of essays is as wonderful as her fiction. You will love this book and wish she was your friend." —Mindy Kaling, author of Why Not Me?

"Fiercely funny, powerfully smart, and remarkably brave." —Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild

Jennifer Weiner is many things: a bestselling author, a Twitter phenomenon, and an “unlikely feminist enforcer” (The New Yorker). She’s also a mom, a daughter, and a sister, a clumsy yogini, and a reality-TV devotee. In this “unflinching look at her own experiences” (Entertainment Weekly), Jennifer fashions tales of modern-day womanhood as uproariously funny and moving as the best of Nora Ephron and Tina Fey.

No subject is off-limits in these intimate and honest essays: sex, weight, envy, money, her mother’s coming out of the closet, her estranged father’s death. From lonely adolescence to hearing her six-year-old daughter say the F word—fat—for the first time, Jen dives into the heart of female experience, with the wit and candor that have endeared her to readers all over the world.

I am a HUGE fan of Jennifer Weiner.  Her book GOOD IN BED was the one book that turned me into a reader.  That is something I have always wanted to thank her personally for.  What a gift she has given me.  In Hungry Heart, I was once again transfixed.  I escaped into the book and enjoyed every minute of it.  It was very hard to put down.  Her stories were honest, funny and fiercely brave.  I laughed, was moved to tears and was in awe of Weiner's ability to write in a way that was so easy to relate to.  She, again, has paved the way for woman!!!  Her grace and ability to touch the soul of her readers is what makes her so likeable.  I am such a huge fan and I HIGHLY recommend this book and ALL of her others as well!!!

Jennifer WeinerJennifer Weiner is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of fourteen books, including Good in Bed, The Littlest Bigfoot, and her memoir Hungry Heart: Adventures in Life, Love, and Writing. A graduate of Princeton University and contributor to the New York Times Opinion section, Jennifer lives with her family in Philadelphia. Visit her online at

I don't have teens yet, 3 years away, but I know that time is coming.  It is never to early to preemptively plan for the future.  I was on a week and a half vacation and spent a lot of time driving across county, so I had lots of time to dive into this book.  It was one of those books that was perfect for taht, as I could pick it up and read a bit here and a bit there.

There is so much to love about this book:
  • The way it was laid out makes it easy to reference what you want to know/learn or access what you need to read about based on life circumstances.
  • Personal stories that make the content easy to relate to.
  • Allows parent and child to find effective ways to talk/relate to each other.
  • Cover lots of important topics like: sex, violence, smoking, alcohol/drug use (just to nane a few).
  • It is strength based.
  • Easy technique that can be practically applied to real life.
  • Calls for accountability for behaviors.
  • Researched and thorough content.
  • Too many other reasons to list.
This book is a great guide to helping both parent and child navigate through the preteen and teen years.  Kids may not come with an owners manual, but we can find way to figure out easier and more effective ways to parent.

#MMBBR #Review #TheSunshineSisters @JaneGreen ‏@BerkleyPub #FirstLine

“A warm, satisfying tale about the love that binds even the most dysfunctional of families.”—People
“With clear prose and a straightforward plot, Green spins a breezy story.”—The Washington Post

“All women will recognize something of themselves in one of the Sunshine sisters. Jane Green’s best yet. I raced through this.”—Jojo Moyes, New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You and Paris for One and Other Stories

The New York Times bestselling author of Falling presents a warm, wise, and wonderfully vivid novel about a mother who asks her three estranged daughters to come home to help her end her life.

Ronni Sunshine left London for Hollywood to become a beautiful, charismatic star of the silver screen. But at home, she was a narcissistic, disinterested mother who alienated her three daughters.

As soon as possible, tomboy Nell fled her mother’s overbearing presence to work on a farm and find her own way in the world as a single mother. The target of her mother’s criticism, Meredith never felt good enough, thin enough, pretty enough. Her life took her to London—and into the arms of a man whom she may not even love. And Lizzy, the youngest, more like Ronni than any of them, seemed to have it easy, using her drive and ambition to build a culinary career to rival her mother’s fame, while her marriage crumbled around her.

But now the Sunshine sisters are together again, called home by Ronni, who has learned that she has a serious disease and needs her daughters to fulfill her final wishes. And though Nell, Meredith, and Lizzy have never been close, their mother’s illness draws them together to confront the old jealousies and secret fears that have threatened to tear these sisters apart. As they face the loss of their mother, they will discover if blood might be thicker than water after all...

#FirstLine ~  Prologue:  All those years when Ronni thought she was sick, all those years convinced that every mole was melanoma, every cough was lung cancer, every case of heartburn was an oncoming heart attack, after all those years, when the gods finally stopped taking care of her she wasn't scared.

Green is an amazing storyteller and this book was incredible.  I felt like this is one of her best books yet!  She has a way of pouring herself into her books and you can tell when you read it.  I feel like this book has so much heart and richness in story!  What an engaging read.   Green can just really cut to the quick and capture family dynamics like none other.  She gets at the complicated relationships, but does so with subtle humor and honesty...never shying away from tough topics.  This book is a MUST read for summer and perfect for any book club!!  A new favorite of mine!
