The Bad Daughter by Joy Fielding

A gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller of family intrigue and dark secrets, from the author of Someone Is Watching and See Jane Run.There was no shortage of words she could use to describe her father, almost none of them complimentary. Serves you damn right, she thought.

A voice mail from her estranged sister, Melanie, sends Robin’s heart racing and her mind spiraling in a full-blown panic attack. Melanie’s message is dire: Their father, his second wife, and his twelve-year-old stepdaughter have been shot—likely in a home invasion—and lie in the hospital in critical condition.
It’s been more than five years since Robin turned her back on her father when he married her best friend. Five years since she said goodbye to her hometown of Red Bluff, California, and became a therapist. More than two years since Robin and Melanie have spoken. Yet even with all that distance and time and acrimony, the past is always with Robin.

Now she must return to the family she left behind. As she attempts to mend fences while her father clings to life, Robin begins to wonder if there is more to the tragedy than a botched burglary attempt. It seems that everyone—Robin’s mercurial sister, her less-than-communicative nephew, her absent brother, and even Tara, her father’s wife—has something to hide. And someone may have put them all in grave danger.

New York Times bestselling author Joy Fielding has written a gripping edge-of-your-seat thriller of family intrigue and dark secrets. The Bad Daughter explores the deadly differences between the lies we want to believe and the truths we wish not to know.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Bad Daughter is a book that will leave you reeling. Fielding really got into my head with this one. I was completely enthralled and left guessing around many corners. It was well drawn out and had some unsettling moments that left me breathless. If you love domestic suspense and characters that are flawed, real and compelling then this is the book for you. You may also want to clear your schedule because you may have a hard time pulling it down.

The Mother's Promise: A Novel by [Hepworth, Sally]

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

#FirstLine ~ When the doctor gave Alice Stanhope the news, she was thinking for Zoe.

This book rocked my heart to the core. This book really grabbed my emotions from that first sentence and did not let go. There was a lump in my throat nearly the entire time. But this book was so beautifully done that the stress slowly dissipated as I continued to read. I was so engrossed in this book that I lost track of time. The characters were spot on, dialogue was dynamic and the story is unforgettable. What an emotional read that captures what it means to love as a mother and how the heart can heal and cope. It is one of those books that is both sad and happy. The Mother's Promise is one that I am certain readers will cherish every single word within it.

The Boo-Boos That Changed the World: A True Story About an Accidental Invention by Barry Wittenstein
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is FANTASTIC. I love that it highlight show an accident can be an amazing and positive thing. I have always just took band-aids for granted and now I will never be able to look at them the same. They have rich history and it is worth knowing. The illustrations are just adorable and add so much to the story because as a new or young reader can follow the story through the images in the book. I, as a teacher and mother, love that there is a timeline in the back. It is such a cool way to show children how things progress and lead us to present day. A great book for the classroom!

The world can be a violent place. Although you try to shelter your children, terrible things can happen at any moment. As a parent, you want to protect them, but this isn't always possible. The best thing you can do for your children is make sure you are prepared to help them after a sudden death or other traumatic experience.

“Divorce” is a big word…especially for little kids. It’s hard for young children to understand what the word means, let alone how it will impact their lives—and it’s hard for us, as grown-ups, to explain it to them in terms they can fully comprehend.

Nonetheless, when a child is involved in a family divorce or separation, it is crucial that he or she understands and embraces the changes… and this book will help you explain the transitions to your child.

Family Changes is a delightfully informative children’s book that tackles a complicated topic in compassionate, child-friendly terms. Ideal for young minds aged four through eight, it features a colorful cast of fuzzy characters led by a young bunny named Zoey, who is struggling with her parents’ divorce and is riddled by important questions and feelings your child is likely to encounter.

In addition to the heartfelt story at its core, Family Changes also offers parents, therapists, teachers, and caregivers valuable information on how to ease children through this significant life change. A comprehensive note to parents and a list of essential child-focused questions are provided to guide the adult and child, and are certain to be an asset to both children and adults involved in the divorce/separation process.

These are very beneficial stories for any young child dealing with a divorce or death of a friend. These books allow children to better understand the range of emotions that they are feeling after such a disruption happens. It allows the child to be able to relate with a character that is feeling the similar things, has similar questions and similar concerns. Not every child is the same and children may process things differently. This books allows the child to ask question and creates dialogue with parents, family and others. Great books for helping children deal with difficult, traumatic and tough situations.

WOW! If you like twisty. If you like turvy. Then this book is for you. I was on the edge of my seat, never knowing what was around each and every corner. It was one of those reads that leaves you uneasy in a very good way. It was one of those reads that you thought you had it figured out and then "boom"...surprised by a plot twist. It was heart pounding and thought provoking. A must for lovers of a satisfying thriller.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was so great. I loved the toe and pace. It was one of those books that grabbed me bit by bit until I could not put it down. I adored the flawed characters, the plot and the satisfying conclusion. I loved how honest and raw this book was. It exposes weaknesses and strengths in equal measure. It is this balance that makes this book one not to be missed.
